WARSAW — An investigation into the death of 64-year-old Mike Long indicates the Kosciusko County Councilman and farmer died Thursday afternoon in an accidental drowning on family property south of Etna Green.
Kosciusko County deputies and emergency personnel responded at about 5 pm., to a report of an unresponsive person in a ditch suffering from a medical emergency, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The incident happened at 375 N. 950 W where emergency responders found Long’s body.
A preliminary investigation determined Long was checking fields on property owned by the Long family.
Long was found near a ditch line where evidence indicates Long accidentally drowned.
A report from the sheriff’s office said emergency personnel arrived on the scene and Long was pronounced dead by Kosciusko County Coroner Tyler Huffer.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Etna Green Fire
Department, Atwood Fire Department, Department of Natural Resources,
Lutheran EMS, Kosciusko County 911 Dispatch, and Kosciusko County Coroner’s
Office.
